    Floraida Rafaelita Manchego (known as Leta) of Fowler died March 4 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta after an illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Manchego was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Springer, New Mexico to Julian Portillos and Esther Pacheco Portillos. She was married to Albert Manchego in Springer, New Mexico on Nov. 14, 1941.
    Mrs. Manchego had polio at the age of three, thus giving her the strength and confidence in herself to inspire each of her grandchildren that they could overcome any obstacle that they encountered along their path. Leta was schooled and raised in Springer, New Mexico. She came to Fowler in 1952 and worked as a housekeeper and volunteered her time to the elderly after retirement. Leta was a devoted memeber of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, was nominated as a canidate for the Arkansas Valley Queen Contest in 2009 and she loved to sing and talk about all her grandchildren.
    Mrs. Manchego is survived by her husband Albert of the family home. Brother Moises Portillos of Colorado Springs and sister Lucy DeBerge of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Children, Virginia Aragon, Martha (Jim) Kesterson, Ernest (Cathy) Manchego all of Fowler; Rita Kesterson of Pueblo, Charlotte (Rudy) Masias of Longmont, Colo,; Esther Castro (Charlie Mann) Platteville, Colo.; and Henrietta (Jim) Smith of Burlington, Colo. Thirty three grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Manchego was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Lamberto Portillos in 1924, a son Albert Jr. in 1945, a sister Bertha Trujillo in 1997 and son-in-law Floyd S. Aragon in 1997.
    Funeral services were held Monday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. at West Assembly of God Church with Father Don Malin of Queen Mary of Heaven Catholic Church officiating. Burial was held at Fowler Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Floyd Aragon Jr., Rudy Masias Jr., Bernardino Castro, Travis Kesterson, Clayton Smith and Charles Kesterson Jr. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters Georgiana Tomlin, Sonya Herrell, Danette Gonzalez, Gina Castro and Kelsey Smith.
    Memorials many be sent in care of the funeral home.
    Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler was in charge of arrangements.
