Griffy’s cause of death released

The cause of death of Byron Griffy, 76, of Fowler, was a gunshot wound to the head.

The Otero County Sheriff’s Department released the information provided by the El Paso County Coroner’s office after they completed an autopsy.

However, the circumstances surrounding the gunshot are still pending and under investigation.

Griffy, a longtime funeral home director in Fowler, was found dead Friday, Oct. 12, at a home near the intersection of County Road 4.5 and U.S. Highway 50. The death occurred before 8 p.m.

The Otero County Sheriff’s Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are busy following all leads. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 384-5941.
