At Monday night's town council meeting, water was the big ticket item on the agenda.
In 2012, the Town of Fowler requested 600 acre-feet of water and only received 24 acre-feet of water. This year they have submitted the same request of 600 but expect to get only 16 acre-feet of water, hence making the water situation for the Town of Fowler in dire straights.
"As mayor, I want nothing to suffer, unfortunately, water has become gold," said Mayor Pat Christensen.
Tom Fedde, Rod Soden and Jonathan Fox were in attendance, representing Cottonwood Links Golf Course. The water alloted for the golf course will decrease drastically. However, the Town of Fowler Board of Trustees are doing all they can right now to make sure everyone is taken care of.
Trustee Chuck Hitchcock, who is a member of the Utility Board motioned to increase the existing two dollar monthly water surcharge by four dollars, making it a six dollar monthly surcharge. This surcharge is designated to be used for the purchase of water. Trustees Randy McKown and Jason Hagerman, along with Mayor Pat Christensen voted that motion down.
"I don't want to increase anyone's bill until we can notify the community first," said Trustee Hagerman.
The board asked Interim Town Administrator Dan Hyatt to look into comparisons of surrounding municipalities' water charges.
The Board of Trustees passed Resolution 849-13 which implements the Stage 5 watering schedule, effective Feb. 1, 2013. Stage 5 watering schedule is as follows.
