Grizzlies lose season opener to the Sargent Farmers

The Fowler Grizzlies opened their season on Friday, Aug. 23, on the road traveling to Sargent. It was a long ride traveling over the mountains and even longer coming home after being defeated. The game started off in favor of the Farmers as they returned the opening kick-off with a 88-yard touchdown, their attempt at a 2-point conversion, however, failed. The Grizz struck back quickly with a touchdown by junior Blaine Larson (#7), the 2 -point conversion failed. First quarter score tied at 6-6. Fowler QB senior Cooper Wright (#8) threw an interception with 12.7 seconds left in the second quarter, allowing the Farmers to score another 6-points, and yet another 2-point conversion failed. Score at the half Farmers 12, Grizzlies 6. Third quarter action was all Grizz action with a Wright 13 yard pass to senior Tate Hershey (#10) and senior Larry Hamilton (#44) making good on a short pass reception for the 2 point conversion, giving the Grizz the lead 14-12. A fumble by the Grizz junior Blaine Larson (#7) recovered by the Farmers gave them another TD in the fourth quarter, along with a 2-point conversion gave the Farmers the lead and the win 20-14. Leading in rushing for the Grizz was junior Schulyer Totten (#33) with 19 carries for 74 yards. Leading in receiving was senior Larry Hamilton (#44) with 4 receptions for 72 yards. Scoring for the Grizz were seniors Tate Hershey (#10) and Larry Hamilton (#44) and junior Blaine Larson (#7). The Grizzlies will host Akron on Friday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m.
