Crop for the Cure

Ten years ago, Debby Rogge, Annette Lundy and Shari Fox made a promise to their friend Cindy Klinkerman, who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer, they would hold an annual Crop for the Cure with all proceeds to benefit the Susan G. Komen fund. "The first crop was held in July of 2004 and Cindy was able to attend. After her passing in January of 2005 is when we decided to change the date to October, for breast cancer awareness month," said Rogge. "Cindy was a Creative Memories consultant and loved scrapbooking. She made scrapbooks for several people, including her two children Bethany and Dean, a tradition that their step-mom Twana Klinkerman has continued," Rogge said. This years Crop for the Cure will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Fowler Christian Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be the final crop, fulfilling the promise made to Cindy. The event has been held in her memory each year, last year the monies earned were donated to the Dorcey Cancer Center at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, and will once again be donated to them. The fee to participate is $35 and includes lunch and goodies throughout the day. There is also a silent auction held throughout the day. Anyone wishing to donate items for the auction or for more information about the event are asked to contact Debby at 263-5675, Annette at 263-4960 or Shari at 263-4651. Flowers by Jeanne will have the "Cancer Awareness Tree" through October. Pink or Silver Ornaments can be purchased for $5 in honor or memory of someone who has lost a loved one or who is battling the disease. At the end of the month you can pick up the ornament you purchased. "We want to thank everyone who has supported this event in the past and we are all honored that we have fulfilled our promise to our dear friend Cindy," Rogge said.
