Unrest within the Fowler Police Department appears to continue as ranking police officer, Douglas Perry, was released from his position Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009. Perry had been the ranking officer at the department for one month, since the sudden resignation of Police Chief Henry Borrego on Dec. 1. At that time, in the absence of a certified individual, Town Administrator Wayne Snider was placed in charge of the police department until a qualified replacement could be hired.

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, a special council meeting was called for the purpose of holding an executive session to discuss a personnel issue regarding Wayne Snider. Unofficial reports indicate one result of that closed session was the end of Perry's employment with the Town of Fowler.

The department is now reduced to two full time officers, Laura Lindholm and Richard Kizer, as well as a part-time reserve officer, Jack Hobby. Lindholm is now the ranking officer. According to Snider, Fowler is in the process of reorganizing the police force and during this time of transition area law enforcement agencies, including Otero County Sheriff's Department, are lending support to Fowler.
