Fowler area residents will soon have the opportunity to purchase local produce without having to travel out of town.

A farmer’s market is set to open at the former gas station west of Fowler Livestock on Highway 50. According to Judy Fosdick, coordinator, there will be several spaces available with at least eight under the shaded awning. “This will give people the opportunity to market locally grown produce, homemade crafts, art work, honey or baked goods,” Fosdick stated.
Fosdick and co-coordinator, Marcy Nameth, felt there was a definite need for this type of market in the Fowler area. With fuel prices soaring, locally grown produce is a valuable commodity. “The average bite of food travels 1500 miles,” commented Fosdick. With price, safety and quality among concerns for shoppers, the demand for local food is on the rise.

The two are quick to point out this will be a quality type of market where customers will be able to obtain homegrown or homemade products. They hope to have a variety of vendors offering items with local flavor.

The tentative opening date is set for July 5th. People interested in renting a space are asked to contact Mary Nameth at 263-4494.
