Fowler schools will begin the 2008-2009 school year on Thursday, August 21st according to Dr. Larry Vibber, superintendent of Fowler School District R4J. Classes will be held from 8:10-11:30 that day for all students.
The regular school day is 8:10 through 3:10 for students in grades K-12.
Transportation routes and time schedules are comparable to last year.
Faculty orientation will begin on Monday August 18th.
Students new to Fowler School District are asked to contact the Elementary or High School offices after August 4th, to complete their registration. It is important that all new students register prior to the start of school.
Parents of kindergarten students are reminded that proof of immunization and a birth certificate are required at the time school starts.
Parents of seventh grade students are reminded that children entering the 7th grade must have proof of receiving their second MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) shot.
Student registration fees are not charged. There will, however, be a band instrument rental fee of $25.00 per semester, and an art fee of $10.00 per semester. Students are asked to provide their own gym clothing, towels, gym shoes and other personal use items, where required.
The school cafeteria will begin serving meals on Friday, August 22nd. Meal prices are $1.00 for breakfast grades K-12. Lunch prices are $1.20 for students in grades K-3, $1.35 for grades 4-6 and $1.50 for grades 7-12. Students who qualify for reduced meals will receive a free breakfast and will be charged 40 cents per meal for lunch. Parents are encouraged to come into the District Office prior to the start of school to apply for free and reduced meals. Information on free and reduced meals will be sent home with all students on the first day of school.
Student insurance is available and is not required except for students who participate in athletics and who do not have other insurance. The cost of the basic coverage is $45.00. The basic insurance covers all school activities except high school football. The football coverage is an additional $85.00. Complete information will be sent home with each student at the beginning of school.
