Former Fowler students inducted into the CHSAA Class of 2011 Hall of Fame

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, Fowler High School Alumni Kris Jensen McKay and Cari Jensen Smith were inducted into the Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) 2011 Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held at the Red Lion Inn in Denver.

Fowler Boys Finish 1-3 in Last Four Games

On Friday, Jan. 20, the Fowler Grizzlies got back on the winning track beating the Crowley County Chargers for the second straight time 45-44. The Grizzlies, who at one point were down by double-digits in the second half, recaptured the lead for good late in the fourth quarter. Fowler focused their defense on Crowley sophomore standout Nathan Baylor by using a box-and-one defensive approach.

Fowler Wrestlers celebrate Parents' Night with a win and Grizzly Girls Basketball

The Fowler Grizzly Wrestlers hosted Baca County Wolverines on Thursday, Jan. 26, which was also Parents' Night.

It's been a tough year for Coach Becky Hershey and her team. On Friday, Jan. 27 they traveled to Las Animas to compete against the Trojans, who hold a record of 11-1.

Red Hat Ladies enjoy company

Donning fancy red hats and purple attire, several members of the Red Hat Ladies met on Thursday, Jan, 26, at Cottonwood Links Golf Course to celebrate two monumental birthdays for Rachel Barnard, (who could not attend) and Helena Nivens. Rachel just celebrated her 98th birthday and  Helena will be 98 years young on March 7.

Community shows support of Elaine White family

"We are truly blessed to live in Fowler." Those were just a few of the words spoken by Elaine White at the benefit which was held in her honor on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Fowler Junior High School.

Grants Available to Help Colorado’s Specialty Crops

From established crops such as potatoes and sod to crops new to Colorado such as hops and lavender, the diversity of Colorado’s specialty crop industry is evident across the state. To help develop and promote the state’s specialty crops, the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) is seeking proposals for the Specialty Crops Block Grant Program. Specialty crops are defined as fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, and nursery crops including floriculture and sod.

Landowners can earn extra cash from hunting

Landowners in southeastern Colorado who open their property to hunters can earn extra cash by enrolling in Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Big Game Access Program (BGAP) for the 2012 hunting seasons.

OJC to offer free tax help to lower-income families

This tax season, Otero Junior College will be one of 13 Colorado colleges with sites to help prepare tax returns for free for lower-income families in Colorado as part of a growing program known as Tax Help Colorado. Families with annual household income less than $49,000 qualify for the free tax assistance.

Bovine Trichomoniasis Update

The Colorado Department of Agriculture reminds cattle owners to test their herd for Bovine Trichomoniasis.

As of 1/30/2012, there are 4 positive “trich” locations in Colorado (Custer, Kit Carson, Las Animas, and Otero).  Three of the four cases were diagnosed in 2011.
