COLORADO SPRINGS — For the second straight season, the Swink High School girls' basketball team has advanced to the Class 2A State Tournament, which will take place this coming weekend at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
The Lady Lions drew a first round bye in the Class 2A East Region Tournament at Doherty High School. They defeated Denver Christian by a score of 39-35 on Saturday. Denver Christian defeated Lyons in the first round 42-37 on Friday.
Individual scoring was unavailable.
The Fowler High School girls' basketball team was also at Doherty, however, the Lady Grizzlies lost to Ellicott 44-40 on Friday.
Crowley County's boys' team was also at this tournament. On Friday, the Chargers defeated Simla 66-39, however, they lost to Akron on Saturday by a score of 42-31.
Fowler boys also advance
AURORA — The Fowler High School boys' basketball team punched its ticket to the state tournament by winning a pair of games at the Class 2A East Region Tournament at Vista Peak High School.
On Friday, the Grizzlies defeated Dayspring Christian 41-27 and on Saturday, they defeated Dawson School 46-37.
Individual statistics were not available.
State tournament this week
Swink's girls (20-2) enter the state tournament as the seventh seed and they will play second seeded Paonia Thursday at 4 p.m. The Lady Lions will play either Haxtun or Del Norte in the second round at either 1:15 or 4 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Yuma plays Ignacio and Wray plays Simla.
Fowler's boys (20-3) are also the seventh seed, and they will take on second seeded Holyoke at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday. The Grizzlies will face either Paonia or Del Norte in the next round at either 10:15 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.
The other side of the bracket has top seed Sedgwick County against Sanford and Akron against Highland.
