LOVELAND — The Fowler High School boys' basketball team was defeated in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A State Tournament as the Grizzlies lost to Holyoke 43-38 Thursday at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Dragnos jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Grizzlies outscored Holyoke 14-11 in the second quarter to close the deficit to 28-23 at halftime.

Holyoke regained its momentum in the third quarter and eventually built a double-digit lead. However, Fowler came back to close within 38-32 at the end of the period.

The Grizzlies scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to tie the score at 38-38 with 3:30 left in the game. The Dragons, however, scored the final five points of the game to take the victory.

Fowler's Alexander Proctor led all scorers with 17 points. Two Holyoke players scored in double figures as M.J. Taylor scored 15 points and Austin Herman scored 11.

Fowler (20-4) will play Del Norte today at 10:15 a.m. Del Norte lost to Paonia 45-37. A Grizzlies' win will advance them to play the winner of the Sanford/Akron game at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. A loss will end the season.

In other quarterfinal games, Sedgwick County ended Sanford's bid for a fourth straight state title with a 40-38 win. In the remaining game, Highland defeated Akron 69-57.
