What is on your calendar for June 17-18? The 2017 Arkansas Valley Community Cancer Support Group Committee invites everyone to join the participants at our First Annual Arkansas Valley Community Cancer Walk which will be held on June 17-18, 2017 at Swink High School.

Arkansas Valley Community Cancer Support Group is committed to provide support in a respectful and inclusive manner for all who apply. We are currently raising funds to enable us to provide financial assistance to members of the Tri-County/Arkansas Valley region who are currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

The commitment and enthusiasm among the participants will keep interest and momentum rolling while jogging or walking around the Swink High School track all night long. Activities, entertainment and food are also scheduled and will be announced closer to the event.

There will be a survivor dinner sponsored by Evelyn Burrell, Alex and Delores Bryant of Cheraw’s Frontier Diner and also Geneva Berumen of Sweet Indulgent Creations Bakery located in Rocky Ford. The menu will be grilled chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, dinner rolls, fresh fruit and cupcakes for dessert. If you are a survivor, please contact any of the numbers above to get registered for the dinner and victory lap.

The First Annual Arkansas Valley Community Cancer Walk offers something for everyone. There are several opportunities that are available to you to support this event. For expample, register a team: gather your friends and family and create a team or join a team already registered. There is still time to get involved by attending meetings held at Swink United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday night. A potluck style dinner is featured at these meetings. Enjoy the camaraderie of the evening while planning this year’s and future years’ cancer walks.

The luminaria ceremony will occur at 9 p.m. This meaningful ceremony is a way to honor loved ones currently battling cancer and to remember those who are no longer with us. Luminarias may be purchased for $5 each by contacting Carrie Holm at (710) 454-6289, Brandy Holm at (720) 557-1413, or Kassandra Hare at (719) 248-0441.

If you are a survivor, you and your caregiver are invited to be the guests at the 6 p.m. dinner prepared in your honor. At 7 p.m. survivors wishing to do so participate in the victory lap, kicking off the cancer walk. Forms to register are distributed throughout the valley. Please register no later than June 10. Please contact Bonita Medina at (719) 980-0997.
