To honor the service and sacrifice of veterans and military, a brief memorial service will be held at the Fowler Cemetery flagpole on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m.

Patriotic songs, such as “God Bless America” and “My Country, 'Tis of Thee” will be sung by everyone, with accompanist Leslie Lieber, who will also serve as master of ceremonies. Pastor Wayne Josephson of the Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Fowler Ministerial Alliance, will give the message. The flag-raising ceremony will be conducted by Boy Scouts from BSA Troop 213. The Boy Scouts will also be placing small flags at the gravesites of known veterans in honor of their dedication and service, on behalf of the Blackburn-Dennis Community Center flag committee, chaired by Neil Smith.

Three-ring binders will be placed in the Gazebo to assist visitors to the Fowler Cemetery. An alphabetized list will provide the names of all known individuals interred in the Fowler Cemetery, coupled with grave locations and a map. A ring binder will include the obituaries of all veterans buried at the cemetery, those who are being honored with flags at their headstones. A third ring binder will include the obituaries of other veterans from the Fowler Community, who do not have headstones or flag placements, whose names will also be displayed on a bulletin board.
