Kathleen Tomlin of Las Animas, NARFE La Junta Chapter 1054, received the 2017 Community Service Award at the recent six-state regional meeting in Denver.
National Active and Retired Federal Employees La Junta Area Chapter President Ed Vela presented Kathleen Tomlin, NARFE La Junta Area Chapter 1054, the 2017 NARFE Community Service Award from the NARFE Region VII Conference in Denver at the NARFE meeting in Rocky Ford recently. Region VII includes six states. After a lifetime of federal work at the Fort Lyon VA she remains in her community volunteering.
Kathleen volunteered 1,939 hours to her community in 2016 at the John W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum. She volunteers at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served as treasurer for the VFW Auxiliary Post #2411, is active in the Women’s Civic Club as treasurer, serves on the Wreaths Across America Committee for Fort Lyon National Cemetery, and helps the homeless veterans and clients at the Fort Lyon Homeless Coalition.
Members of the Las Animas Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) gave the program at the NARFE La Junta Area Chapter 1054 July meeting in Rocky Ford.
NARFE La Junta Area Chapter 1054 meets at 11:30 the second Wednesday of odd months (January, March, May, July, September, November plus December). The meetings rotate between Las Animas, La Junta, Rocky Ford and Pueblo. Federal employees, retirees and spouse are invited to attend. Call president Ed Vela, (719) 469-8209, for location.
