COLORADO SPRINGS — The Rocky Ford High School boys' cross country team won the Class 2A division at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, which was Saturday at the Norris Penrose Event Center.
The Meloneers were led by Cody Danley, who was the medalaist in 17:22.6. Noel Loez was seventh in 19:24.2, Joaquin Munoz was eighth in 19:34.1, Gary DeLeon was 24th in 21:49.2, Noel Rocha was 25th in 21:58.3 and Jayden DeLeon was 30th in 22:49.0.
Rocky Ford easily won the boys' championship with 12 points, nine points better than second-place Peyton. Buena Vista was third with 30, St. Mary's was fourth with 32, Lake County was fifth with 57, Highland was sixth with 64 Thomas MacLaren was seventh with 79.
Denver Academy, Limon, Shining Mountain, Swallows and Telluride all competed but did not record a team score.
The Lady Meloneers placed third in the Class 2A girls' meet and they were led by Jacklynn Snyder, who finished sixth in 23:38.7. Ashlyn Alvey was seventh in 23:53.8, Jacquelin Alvey was 17th in 26:22.4, Emily Gauna was 19th in 26:59.1, Abigail Snyder was 20th in 27:41.1 and Kailene Black was 22nd in 28:26.1.
St. Mary's won the championship with seven points, followed by Peyton with 26, Rocky Ford with 28, Shining Mountain with 36, Lake County with 49 and Buena Vista with 62.
Highland, Limon, Swallows, Telluride and Thomas MacLaren did not record team scores.
Rocky Ford will host its annual home meet on Saturday at Babcock Park. The first race begins at 9 a.m.
