There were two high school cross country meets involving local teams that took place last week.

Run Above the Clouds

WOODLAND PARK — La Junta High School competed in the Run Above the Clouds meet, which took place last Thursday at the Shining Mountain Golf Course.

The LJ boys finished in eighth place and the Tigers were led by Chaz Stem, who placed 29th in 20:38. Theo Dutt was 43rd in 21:28, Santanel Orosco was 52nd in 22:00, David Palmer was 53rd in 22:04, Ian Dutt was 60th in 22:45, Dax Blair was 85th in 25:19 and Karl Ludwig was 91st in 27:31.

Cheyenne Mountain won the boys' race with 31 points, followed by Coronado with 38 and Woodland Park with 81.

Pueblo South's Ben Highfill was the individual champion in 17:47.

For the Lady Tigers, Myala Arellano was 25th in 24:11. She was the only runner in the girls' race.

Cheyenne Mountain also won the girls' meet with 31 points, followed by Coronado with 33 and Woodland Park with 99.

Chloe Cassens of Coronado was the girls' medalist in 20:42.

La Junta is at the Florence Invitational today.

Joe I. Vigil Invitational

ALAMOSA — The Rocky Ford High School cross country teams participated in the Joe I. Vigil Invitational this past Saturday at Cattails Golf Course.

The Meloneers were 14th in the boys' meet with 362 points. They were led by Noel Lopez, who was 46th in 17:42.93. Joaquin Munoz was 69th in 18:27.29, Gary DeLeon was 81st in 18:44.81, Jayden DeLeon was 134th in 20:05.79, Noel Rocha was 140th in 20:21.66, Jason Hernadnez was 16st in 21:00.49, Fredrick Rikhoff was 196th in 22:30.47, Dennis Ackerman was 197th in 22:32.91, Demetrius Tenorio was 203rd in 23:25.54 and Adam Cruz was 225th in 26:38.35.

Dakota Ridge was the boys' meet champion with 27 points, followed by Durango with 46 and Alamosa with 116.

Dakota Ridge's Connor Ohlson was the boys' individual champion in 15:26.72.

The Lady Meloneers were 12th in the girls' competition with 326 points. Leading Rocky was Ashlyn Alvey, who was 68th in 22:36.57. Jacquelin Alvey was 70th in 22:37.06, Jacklynn Snyder was 79th in 22:48.80, Emily Gauna was 103rd in 23:37.64, Abigail Snyder was 107th in 23:43.84, Martha Castaneda was 121st in 24:22.37, Kailene Black was 129th in 24:53,65, Kaysa Kurtz was 134th in 25:06.85, Katie Preciado was 150th in 25:53.46 and Danielle Lucero was 188th in 28:03.63.

Durango won the girls' meet with 22 points, followed by Dakota Ridge with 69 and Alamosa with 86.

Dakota Ridge's Michelle Renner won the girls' individual championship in 18:56.21.

Rocky Ford is at the Rock Canyon Invitational in Highlands Ranch on Saturday.

LJJHS at Pueblo West

PUEBLO WEST — The La Junta Junior High School cross country teams were at the Pueblo West Invitational last Thursday.

There were no team scores kept on the two-mile course.

For the boys' team, Henry Olaleye had a time of 16:44, Jacob Reeder completed the course in 16:54, Zander Rypkema recorded a 17:02 and William Rypkema had a 20:37.

The Lady Tigers were led by Jazmyne Giannini with a time of 17:43. Jasmine Villegas had a time of 17:48 and Chianna Mendoza ran in 18:00.
