COLORADO CITY — Two La Junta High School boys' golfers along with one from Fowler and one from Rocky Ford all qualified to compete at the Class 3A State Tournament, which will take place Oct. 2-3 at Indian Peaks Golf Course in Lafayette.
All three schools' boys' golf teams competed at the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament, which took place Monday at Hollydot Golf Course.
Qualifying for the Tigers are Jay Paolucci and Cody Schrock. Paolucci finished in sixth place with a 76 and Schrock tied for 12th with an 81.
The other La Junta golfers were Chance Oquist and Noah Sedillo, who both tied for 22nd with an 89 apiece. Both Sedillo and Oquist, along with Rye's Zach Richardson, had a playoff for two alternate positions. Sedillo will also head to state as the first alternate and Richardson will be the second.
The Grizzlies' state qualifier is Derrick Sharp, who tied for 18th with an 85.
Also competing for Fowler were David Gage, who tied for 25th with a 90, Christian Mullarkey, who tied for 33rd with a 98 and Joseph Aragon, who finished 45th with a 112.
Headed to state for the Meloneers is Ethan Jacob, who placed 17th with an 84.
The rest of the Rocky golfers included Levi Collins, who was 28th with a 93, Cristian Valdez, who was 36th with a 99 and Damon Carpenter, who was 37th with a 101.
La Junta finished fourth in the team standings with 246. Fowler was eighth with 273 and Rocky Ford was ninth with 276.
Kent Denver and Lutheran were the top two teams. Kent Denver had a team score of 214, which is one-over-par, and Lutheran had 237. Lamar was third with 239.
Kent Denver also had three of the top four individuals. Oliver Jack was the regional medalist with a two-under-par 69. Jackson Klutznick tied for second with a 72 and Mateo Manzanarez tied for fourth with a 73.
