Bikers gather from lower Arkansas Valley to support Wayne Kash Memorial Toy Run
It was a bright and sunshiny day for the 27th Wayne Kash Memorial Toy Run. The bikers shopped in Walmart with the cash donations before the run and took donations with them to the Rocky Ford Elks Club. “Bikers from around the lower Arkansas Valley came out in support of the 27th Annual Wayne Kash Memorial Bikers Toy Run,” said Jody Bracy, organizer of the run. Many of the supporters of the Wayne Kash Memorial Toy Run and Dance are also members of American Legion Post 9 in La Junta and also posts in Manzanola and Fort Lyon. Twenty-five people participated in the Toy Run.
Richard Devlin of the Fort Lyon Post reports he has more bicycles this year than last and wishes to thank all that have been contributing. He is working on them in batches of seven or eight and then sending them to a friend’s house for storage until they are distributed to area children.
The Wayne Kash Toy Run began on Saturday shortly before noon, pulling out of the Walmart parking lot with a police escort. They ran without incident, except for one motorcycle with engine trouble, to the Rocky Ford Elks Club, where they were met by Jeff Stevenson, once the organizer of the yearly run.
