AURORA — The Rocky Ford High School softball team's bid for a state title repeat came to an end on Friday as the Lady Meloneers lost to Eaton 8-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A State Tournament at the Aurora Sports Complex.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Meloneers held off Meeker 7-6.

Rocky Ford 7, Meeker 6

After the first two innings went scoreless, the Lady Meloneers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Cowboys scored once in their half of the inning to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Ashley Jaramillo hit a solo home run in the fifth to give Rocky a 3-1 lead. But Meeker answered with five runs in their half of the frame to claim a 6-3 advantage.

Rocky Ford regained the lead with a four-run sixth and it kept Meeker off the board in the sixth and seventh innings.

Sadie Brewer was the winning pitcher for the Lady Meloneers.

Eaton 8, Rocky Ford 0

The Lady Reds took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added three more runs in the third and two in the fourth.

The Lady Meloneers had several opportunites to score, but could not bring the runners home.

Brewer was the losing pitcher for Rocky Ford.

The Lady Meloneers had a final record of 14 wins and nine losses.
