The Class 2A and Class 1A volleyball tournaments involving local teams will take place this week at various locations.
Class 2A District 6
The Class 2A District 6 Tournament will have a unique format as it will be played in three rounds.
There are two matches today as fifth-seeded Rocky Ford High School will host eighth-seeded Swallows Charter Academy and sixth-seeded Las Animas will host seventh-seeded Crowley County. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m.
Third-seeded Fowler and fourth-seeded John Mall drew byes into the second round, which will take place on Thursday. Fowler will play the winner of the Crowley County/Las Animas match and John Mall will host the Swallows/Rocky Ford winner.
The winners of those two matches will advance to the championship round Saturday in Hoehne where top-seeded Hoehne and second-seeded Swink await. It will be a round-robin pool play format with the first match to begin at 9 a.m.
The top three teams following the championship round will advance to regional play next week. The first place and third place teams will play in Region A and the second place team will be at Region E.
Class 1A District 2
The Class 1A District 2 Tournament will take place Friday at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center.
There will be two pools with a round-robin format. Pool A will be on the east court and it will have top-seeded Kit Carson, fourth seeded Cheyenne Wells and sixth-seeded Granada, and Pool B will be on the west court and it will have second-seeded McClave, third-seeded Eads and fifth-seeded Cheraw.
McClave and Cheraw will play each other in the first Pool B match at 9:30 a.m. Cheraw and Eads will be the second match and McClave and Eads will be the third.
In pool A, Kit Carson and Granada will play at 9:30 a.m., followed by Cheyenne Wells and Granada, and Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells.
The championship and third-place matches will be played following the end of pool play.
The top three placers will advance to regional action next week.
Class 1A District 3
The Class 1A District 3 Tournament will be on Saturday, and it too will be played at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center.
The fourth-seeded Kim/Branson co-op team will be in Pool A along with top seed Wiley and sixth-seeded South Baca. The first match will be between Wiley and South Baca at 10 a.m., followed by Kim/Branson vs. South Baca and Wiley vs. Kim/Branson.
Pool B will consist of second-seeded Holly, third-seeded Springfield and fifth-seeded Walsh. The first match at 10 a.m. will be Holly vs. Walsh, followed by Springfield vs. Walsh and Holly vs. Springfield.
The championship and third-place matches will be after pool play has been concluded.
The top three placers advance to regional tournaments next week.
Class 1A District 6
Manzanola High School won the first match of the Class 1A District 6 Tournament Monday in Manzanola. The eighth-seeded Lady Bobcats swept ninth-seeded Mountain Valley 25-22, 25-15 and 25-20.
Manzanola will play at top-seeded La Veta today at 5 p.m.
Other matches played today will have seventh-seeded Primero at second-seeded Sangre de Cristo, sixth-seeded Centennial (San Luis) will play at third-seeded Creede and fifth-seeded Sierra Grande will play at fourth-seeded Cotopaxi.
The winners of today's matches will play in the championship round Saturday at Sangre de Cristo High School in Mosca. The first match begins at 9 a.m.
