New location, same great show

Mark your calendars now to be at the Industrial Park in Rocky Ford on Nov. 5 and 6 before sunrise. Why there you might ask? The 29th Annual Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival will be launching hot air balloons from that location this year is why. Liftoff on Saturday is at 6:30 a.m. — on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. (back to standard time).

The new launch site is the field adjacent to Innovative Water Technologies on Industrial Park Road West of Rocky Ford. You get there by going West on Highway 202 from Second Street in Rocky Ford. There will be signs pointing the way. The Methodist Church breakfast will be served out of the IWT cafeteria.

This year’s event sponsors of the Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival don’t want you to miss the launch, so mark your calendars and set your clocks now. The event sponsors include: Arkansas Valley Knights of Columbus and Pioneer Health Care Center as Gold Sponsors; 4Rivers Equipment, Joey Thomas and Van Dyk Insurance Agency, Inc as Silver Sponsors; Fowler State Bank and First National Bank of Las Animas – Rocky Ford as Bronze Sponsors. If you are interested in supporting the Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival as a sponsor or volunteer contact Rockie Sanders at 719-254-4354 or Lynnie Feik at 719-980-1258

PS: “Martin the Martian is back!” said J.R. Thompson on Monday afternoon. There were 22 balloons registered as of Monday. Thompson also told us the reason for the change of venue. The Rocky Ford football field and track are undergoing renovation and they don't want the track driven over.
