DENVER — It was not a good weekend for the local high school volleyball teams at their respective state tournaments as all three were defeated in both of their matches. All matches were played at the Denver Coliseum.
Holly defeated McClave
McClave High School played first on Friday as it took on area rival Holly in the Class 1A State Tournament. The Lady Cardinals dropped the first set 25-18, but they came back to win the next two 26-24 and 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Wildcats, however, won the last two sets 25-19 and 15-3 to take the win.
Simla defeated Swink
Swink High School had a hard time in its first match in the Class 2A State Tournament when it took on Simla on Friday. The Lady Cubs swept the Lady Lions by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15.
Hoehne defeated Fowler
Fowler High School met Santa Fe League rival Hoehne in its first match at the Class 2A State Tournament on Friday. The Lady Grizzlies were swept by the Lady Farmers 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17.
Otis defeated McClave
McClave played its final match of the tournament as it met Otis on Friday. The Lady Cardinals won the first set 25-23, however, the Lady Bulldogs won the next three 25-22, 27-25 and 25-21.
McClave's final record was 17 wins and nine losses.
Meeker defeated Swink
Swink finished its state tournament appearance with Meeker on Friday. The Cowboys swept the Lady Lions 25-14, 25-16 and 25-19.
Swink's final record was 19 wins and seven losses.
Denver Christian defeated Fowler
Fowler's state tournament came to an end on Saturday as it went up against Denver Christian. The Thunder swept the Lady Grizzlies 25-12, 25-14 and 25-22.
Fowler had a final record of 19 wins and eight losses.
