Reaborn G. Cox, 74, of Herrin, IL, died Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion, IL.

Reaborn, after graduation from Herrin Township High School, served in the USMC for five years and served in Vietnam. He graduated from the Colorado State Patrol Academy and became a Colorado State Trooper in 1974. He served for 28 years until the onset of Alzheimer's disease forced him to retire. He received many awards, including "Trooper of the Year" and many awards for the outstanding Drug Interdiction Program, which he helped develop for the patrol.

Reaborn loved to hunt, fish, golf and travel. Cruise vacations were determined by what islands had gold courses he could play on. He greatly enjoyed taking family and friends around the state of Colorado to share the beauty of the state he loved. He loved the Denver Broncos.

He was born July 20, 1943 in Herrin, IL. to Dalton E. and Wilma Omedia (Bradshaw) Cox.

Reaborn was united in marriage with Kathy Townsend on December 21, 1963 in Herrin, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Cox of Herrin; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Toni Cox of Swink, CO; granddaughter, Danica Cox of Colorado Springs, CO.; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Shad Shadowens of Mulkeytown, IL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl "Podge" and Gloria Cox, Bob and Jeanne Dial of Clearmont, FL.; aunt, Grace Ayers of Herrin; nieces and nephews, Darla and Wayne Peterson, Greg Olkoski and Malinda Leposky, Jeff and Beckie Olkoski, J.K. and Susan Olkoski, Shawn and Kimberly Cox, and Bryce Cox; great nieces and nephews, Timothy Peterson, Ashlie Cole, Kelsie Olkoski, Sarah Olkoski, Kayla Olkoski, Shay Olkoski, Heather Olkoski, Will Cox, Chesney Cox, Autumn Cox, Taylor Baldwin, and Mason Leposky.

A memorial service was at the Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 6 p.m. with Rev. Dan Taylor officiating. Visitation was Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Community Living Center at Marion V.A. Medical Center, 2401 West Main Street, Marion, IL 62959.
