Following its Hampton Inn Classic championship, which included wins over the then No. 1 and No. 2 teams, the La Junta High School baseball team moved up seven positions as it went from ninth to second on the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 3A poll.
The polls were posted on the CHSAANow.com web site on Monday.
Lamar remained the top-ranked team. Following the Savages and the Tigers are Colorado Academy, Eaton, University, Faith Christian, The Academy, Sterling, Valley, and Kent Denver.
Listed as "others receiving votes" are Lutheran, Bayfield, Delta, Cedaredge, Gunnison, Peak to Peak, Bishop Machebeuf, Montezuma-Cortez, Pagosa Springs, Weld Central, Alamosa, Resurrection Christian, and Platte Valley.
Two local teams are on the Class 2A poll; however, they both dropped in the rankings.
Rocky Ford dropped from fourth to sixth, while Swink fell from sixth to ninth.
Paonia remains the No. 1-ranked team, followed by Peyton, Hotchkiss, Limon, Lyons, Rocky Ford, Sedgwick County, Haxtun, Swink, and Yuma.
County Line is mentioned as "others receiving votes," along with Holyoke, Dawson, Front Range Christian, Evangelical Christian, Denver Christian, Dolores Huerta, Highland, Sargent, Burlington, Meeker, and Wiggins.
Holly is still ranked first on the Class 1A poll, followed by Fleming, Otis, Dove Creek, Caliche, Cornerstone Christian, Nucla, Elbert, Longmont Christian, and Granada.
Manzanola is listed as "others receiving votes," as are Eads, Cotopaxi, Stratton/Liberty, Denver Jewish Day, Antonito, Kiowa, Mile High Academy, and Springfield.
