The Otero County Sheriff’s Office and fire departments from across Otero County have responded to a great many fires over the past several weeks.

The Sheriff’s Office has several investigations open into many of them, and we believe some of them have been set intentionally. We will not release any details into the investigation, as it is ongoing.

Sheriff Mobley is asking that citizens be vigilant and please report anyone or anything that you may feel is suspicious or out of place in your area to your local law enforcement or to the Sheriff’s Office at (719) 384-5941.

In these dry and extremely windy conditions, any fire places lives and property at risk, and any person intentionally starting a fire will be prosecuted to the maximum allowed by law.
