SWINK — Rocky Ford high School easily won the boys’ team championship, while Fowler had a closer contest in winning the girls’ title at the annual Ray Headley Invitational Monday at Gene Brown Field.

The Meloneers scored 129 points, which was 70 more than second place Crowley County with 59.

The Lady Grizzlies scored 67 points and they edged Springfield by nine points. Florence was third with 50.

Fowler

Fowler took sixth place in the boys’ standings with 31 points. The Grizzlies had three placers who all scored in more than one event.

Orin Carnes was second in the 110 hurdles in 16.92 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 48.01; Brand Sharp was third in the 110 hurdles in 17.08 and third in the 300 hurdles in 44.58; and Thor Schiffer was fifth in the long jump at 18-1, sixth in the 110 hurdles in 18.00, seventh in the 300 hurdles in 47.99, and eighth in the triple jump at 36-3 1/2.

The Lady Grizzlies were led by Lexi Van Sickle, who won the 400 in 1:01.67 and she was also second in the 200 in 27.60.

Also placing in more than one event for the Fowler girls was Ryanna Pruet, who was fifth in the triple jump at 31-6 3/4 and seventh in the 200 in 28.40.

Other Lady Grizzly placers included Ashlyn Alvey, who was second in the 1,600 in 6:04.39; Jacquelin Alvey, who was third in the 800 in 2:41.82; Samantha Graham, who was seventh in the long jump at 14-3 1/2; and Kaitlyn Smith, who was eighth in the 100 hurdles in 19.78.

Fowler also won two relays. They won the 4x200 in 1:50.98 and the 800 sprint medley in 1:56.61. It also took third in the 4x800 in 11:30.16.

Crowley County

Crowley County’s boys were led by Lane Walter, who won the shot put at 44-0 1/2 and the discus at 161-5. He was also third in the 200 in 23.79.

Tyler Schwartz was also an individual champion as he won the long jump at 20-8. He was also third in the triple jump at 40-7 1/4.

Other Charger placers included Hayden Carter, who was fourth in the high jump at 5-7, and Brannon Harris, who was sixth in the discus at 113-6 and eighth in the 400 in 56.22.

The Chargers also took second place in the 4x200 in 1:35.48.

The Lady Chargers placed eighth with 39 points and they were led by Rylee Haynes, who won three championships. She won the 100 hurdles in 17.31, the high jump at 5-2, and the long jump at 15-11 1/4. Haynes also placed fifth in the 300 hurdles in 51.86.

Another Crowley County placer was Jayla Brown, who finished fourth in the 3,200 in 14:52.71.

Later this week

Fowler and Crowley County will be at the Springfield Longhorn Invitational on Saturday.
