CASPER, Wyo. — Otero Junior College's Mason Mardesich is off to a good start at the College National Finals Rodeo as he is in fourth place after the first round.

He had his first of three saddle bronc rides Sunday at the Casper Events Center.

Mardesich had a 76 1/2 point ride and he is fourth in the overall standings.

There is a tie for first place as Will Centoni of Cuesta (Calif.) and Dawson Dahm of Oklahoma Panhandle State both have 78-point rides. Carter Elshere of Gillette (Wyo.) is third with 77 1/2 points.

The remaining qualified rides include Parker Kempfer of Sam Houston State (Texas) with 75 1/2 points, Jake Finlay of Oklahoma Panhandle State with 75, Briar Dittmer of Missouri Valley with 74 1/2, and Brady Hill of Western Texas with 72 1/2.

The other rough stock events also had their first gos on Sunday. Jesse Nelson of Montana State and and Jesse Pope of Missouri Valley lead in bareback riding with 78 1/2 points apiece. Colby Demo of Feather River (Calif.) leads in bull riding with 82 points.

The breakaway roping also began on Sunday and Marlee Mussman of Montana-Western leads with a 2.3-second run.

Mardesich had his second attempt in today's morning slack. His final ride will be on the Wednesday evening performance.

The top 12 in each event will return for the championship on Saturday.
