HURON, S.D. — Waitley Sharon of Ordway had his first saddle bronc steer ride of the National Junior High School Finals Rodeo in the Tuesday morning performance at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
Sharon, however, was unsuccessful and he recorded a no score.
Sharon is also competing in boys' goat tying. He had a run of 12.95 seconds in his first go-round attempt on Monday morning. After both performances on Tuesday, Sharon was in 53rd place.
Sharon's second steer ride will be in the Thursday evening performance, and his final goat tying run will be on Friday evening.
Boys' leaders have Kade Harland of Buffalo, Oklahoma, on top in goat tying with an 8.87-second run. Gus Gaillard of Morse, Texas, leads in bareback steer riding with 69 points and in saddle bronc steer riding with 67 points, Shayde Harris of Searcy, Arkansas, leads in breakaway roping in 2.36 seconds, Caden Fitzpatrick of Polson, Montana, and Cooper Jacobs of Benjamin, Utah, lead in bull riding with 76 points, Bubba Skene of Prince Edward, Saskatchewan, Canada, leads in chute dogging in 4.34 seconds, and Trey Adams of Junction City, Kansas leads in tie-down roping in 9.98 seconds,
Girls' leaders include Karsyn Daniels of McKinney, Texas, in barrel racing in 15.808 seconds, Josie Connor of Iowa, Louisiana, in breakaway roping in 2.19 seconds, Cheyenne VandeStouwe of Inwood, Iowa, in goat tying in 7.13 seconds, and Emma Hulse of Snohomish, Washington, in pole bending in 20.209 seconds.
Shayde Harris of Searcy, Arkansas, and Drew Dollar of Greenbriar, Arkansas, lead in team roping in 7.17 seconds, and Cayden Newsome of Myakka City, Florida, and Courtney Carbajal of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, lead in ribbon roping in 7.37 seconds.
The final performance in the first go was this morning. The second go begins with today's evening performance.
The rodeo will continue until Saturday with the championship round.
