HURON, S.D. — Waitley Sharon of Ordway had his second and final saddle bronc steer ride of the 2018 National Junior High School Finals Rodeo Thursday at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. However, he had a no score for the second time in the rodeo and he will not place in the event.
He had his first steer ride on Tuesday and also recorded a no-score.
Sharon is also entered in goat tying and he will have his final run in that event today. He had a time of 12.95 seconds in his first go-round on Monday and he 93rd in the overall standings.
The overall leaders in each boys' event include Kade Madsen of Honeyville, Utah, in bareback steer riding with 125 points, John Hisel of Clovis, New Mexico, in breakaway roping in 5.78 seconds, Riley Webb of Denton, Texas, in goat tying in 17.71 seconds, Cole Townsend of Paris, Tennessee, in bull riding with 140 points, Seth Glass of Potter, Nebraska, in chute dogging in 4.71 seconds, Benny Proffitt of Skellytown, Texas, in saddle bronc steer riding with 115 points, and Luke Dubois of Church Point, Louisiana, in tie-down roping in 22.04 seconds.
The overall girls' leaders are Karsyn Daniels of McKinney, Texas, in barrel racing in 31.538 seconds, Hali Williams of Mineral Wells, Texas, in breakaway roping in 5.6 seconds, Cheyenne VandeStouwe of Inwood, Iowa, in goat tying in 16.42 seconds, and Olivia Thibodeaux of Church Point, Louisiana, in pole bending in 40.787 seconds.
The overall leaders in team roping are Denim Ross of Botha, Alberta, Canada, and Levi Schmidt of Barrville, Alberta, Canada, in 16.76 seconds. Leading in ribbon roping are Lexie McLemore of Anadarko, Oklahoma, and Kade williams of Haskell, Oklahoma, in 14.55 seconds.
The second go boys' leaders are Madsen in bareback steer riding with 64 points, Blake Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma, in breakaway roping in 2.37 seconds, Luke Mativy of Dickinson, North Dakota, in goat tying in 7.96 seconds, Bryce Jensen of Huntsville, Texas, in bull riding with 76 points, Glass in chute dogging in 1.29 seconds, Reno McGill of Gardnerville, Nevada, in saddle bronc steer riding with 56 points, and Dubois in tie-down roping in 10.25 seconds.
Leading the girls' events in the second go are Wylee Mitchell of Pioche, Nevada, in barrel racing in 15.482 seconds, Dallie Bastian of Neola, Utah, in breakaway roping in 2.54 seconds, Staheli Adams of Cedar City, Utah, in goat tying in 7.66 seconds, and Thibodeaux in pole bending in 20.524 seconds.
Ross and Schmidt also lead the second go in team roping in 8.48 seconds. Sealey Bottom of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and Raesh Casebolt of Ryan, Oklahoma, are the ribbon roping leaders in the second go in 6.63 seconds.
There will be two performances today and one on Saturday morning. The top 15 in each event return for the championship round on Saturday evening.
