The unofficial draw for the National High School Finals Rodeo, which will take place at the Sweetwater Events Center in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on July 15-21, was released earlier this summer.
The draw will become official after the check-in this coming weekend.
Three local high school cowgirls will be competing at the NHSFR, including two who were Colorado State High School Rodeo Association state champions.
Kodey Hoss, who will be a senior at Cheraw High School, will be at the national finals for the third consecutive year as she will compete in two events — breakaway roping and goat tying. She was the Colorado state champion in both events.
Hoss will compete in breakaway roping in the Sunday evening performance and her second run will be in the morning performance on July 15. In goat tying, she will compete on July 18 in both the morning and evening performances.
She competed in the same events the previous two seasons.
Jacobi Larson, who will be a sophomore at Fowler High School, qualified for the nationals in pole bending. She was the state champion in the event this season.
Larson will first compete in the morning performance on July 17 and again in the evening performance on July 19.
This will be her first appearance at the NHSFR, but it is not her first national exposure as she took part in the National Junior High School Finals Rodeo back in 2016, where she performed in the same event.
The final local performer is Dalley Gibson, who graduated from Crowley County High School in May. She will he in the shooting rifle event, which will take place on July 17 at the Green River Shooting Range.
This is also Gibson's third trip to the finals. The previous two seasons, she was in the National High School Finals Rodeo queen competition.
There was one more national qualifier, Colt Honey, who will be a senior at Cheraw High School and was fourth in the state in steer wrestling. However, he will not be able to compete in the NHSFR.
The top performers in each event after the two go-rounds will return for the championship round, which will take place in the evening of July 21.
