Sta'Nisha Hersey will be joining Otero Junior College as the new women's basketball coach for the 2018-19 school year.

Her most recent coaching experience was at Dodge City (Kansas) Community College where she spent the last three years helping coach, recruit and strain student-athletes. She assisted in obtaining a 17-14 overall record the first year. Hersey worked on guard player development during practice and off-season workouts.

While at Dodge City and working under Zach Loll, a four-time former National Junior College Athletic Association Region XXIV Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) Coach if the Year, she was part of a basketball program that accomplished the most wins in the conference over a 10-year period.

Hersey also has coaching experience from the University of Southern Mississippi and Fort Scott (Kansas) Community College, and playing experience at Garden City (Kansas) Community College and Pittsburg State (Kansas) University. Hersey has a proven track record and is known for mentoring young women both on an off the court. Hersey, originally from Shawnee, Kansas, is married with a newborn. She has a bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State and a master's degree from Southern Mississippi.

"We are thrilled to welcome coach Hersey to OJC," said OJC athletics director Gary Addington. "She will be an asset to the program bringing great coaching experience and knowledge with her."

Hersey's goals for OJC's women's basketball program includes finishing the season with a team grade-point average of 3.35; finishing in the Top 4 in the NJCAA Region IX South; hosting the first round of the Region IX playoffs; having every player graduate with an associate degree; and making it to the NJCAA Tournament.

"I am beyond excited to be coming to Otero and leading the women's basketball program," Hersey said.
