Motorcycles run for a good cause

The Fifth Annual Ashley’s Poker Run roared off from the La Junta City Park on Saturday. The run is for the purpose of raising money for an annual scholarship to pay for the second year of a student nurse’s tuition. Ashley Abel, a student nurse, whose life was lost tragically in an automobile accident five years ago. Her mother, Jody Bracy, decided to hold an annual motorcycle run in her honor in order to finance another student nurse’s career. The scholarship award will be presented later in the year at Otero Junior College.

Holly Carter was in charge of the dealing of the poker hands. The winning hand was Jody Bracy’s with two pairs, queens and aces; second place went to Dawn Skramstad with a pair of kings and third to Jennifer Ritter with a pair of queens. Approximately 40 people came out and supported Ashley’s Run along the way.
