LAMAR — The seventh-ranked Rocky Ford High School softball team concluded the regular season Friday with a 14-4 win over sixth-ranked Lamar at Citizens Park.
It was a nonleague contest.
The Lady Meloneers started their attack early by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Savages scored twice in their half of the first to trim the lead to 3-2.
Rocky Ford scored four more runs in the third for s 7-2 lead. Lamar scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to reduce the deficit to 7-4.
The Lady Meloneers scored four more runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to wrap up the scoring.
Sadie Brewer went the distance for Rocky Ford and she was the winning pitcher. She allowed four runs and nine hits and she also had eight strikeouts, no walks and one hit batter,
The Lady Meloneers collected 16 hits and they were led by Ally Bartholomew, who went 4-5 with a double and two RBIs. Kelly Long went 3-3 with four RBIs, Baylie Kruger went 3-5 with a double and five RBIs, and Ciarra Huckaby went 2-5 with a double and two RBIs.
The Lady Meloneers and Lady Savages tied for first place in the Tri-Peaks League with a 6-1 record. Rocky Ford is the league champion after winning the league match-up earlier this season.
Rocky Ford had an overall record of 16 wins and six losses. It will now wait to determine when and where it will play in regional action this coming weekend.
