The Otero Junior College wrestling team opened the 2018-19 season by hosting the annual Navy/Grey dual meet Saturday at the McDivitt Center.
Even though it wasn't a regular season dual meet, the competition was good. The Navy team won the meet 19-6.
The meet started at 125-pounds, with Marco Rivera of the Navy team defeating Trent Hackworh by a 6-5 decision.
At 133 pounds, Johnny Lopez won by a 7-0 decision over Andrew Norrison for the Grey team's first win.
There were two matches at 141 pounds, with the Navy team winning both of them. First, Ben Long scored a 12-2 major decision over Jake Ballesteros, and then Alex Simmons took a 5-0 decision over Trevor Casteel.
The Grey's second win came at 149 pounds, as Jason Alcala defeated Alex Ramirez by an 11-4 decision.
Former Rocky Ford High School state champion Diego Vigil-Reyes won by a 9-2 decision over Fritz Doublas.
At 174 pounds, former Fowler High School standout and also a state champion Dahlton McGhee scored an escape in the third period to edge Jaylon Chiles by a 4-3 decision.
In the final match of the night, Noah Dohm defeated Connor White-Shrum by a 3-2 decision at 285 pounds.
Otero will have its first dual meet of the regular season on Thursday, when the Rattlers will travel to Golden to face the Colorado School of Mines. On Saturday, OJC will be in Laramie, Wyoming for the University of Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
