Otero Junior College will be in something different in this year's postseason as it will compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Tournament.
The tournament will be played at Laramie County Community College's Storey Gym beginning Wednesday in Cheyenne, Wyo.
This will be the first year in which Region IX will play one single tournament. In previous seasons, the North Division and the South Division had their own separate tournaments, with the winner of each tournament advancing to the NJCAA Tournament.
The top two teams in the tournament, regardless of division, will play at nationals, which will take place Nov. 15-17 in Hutchinson, Kan.
Otero enters the tournament as the third seed in the South. It will play in one of four pigtail matches on Wednesday morning.
The Lady Rattlers will play Central Wyoming College at 8 a.m. Should OJC win, it will play Northwest (Wyo.) College later that day.
In other pigtail matches, Trinidad State Junior College will play Western Wyoming Community College, Sheridan (Wyo.) College will play McCook (Neb.) Community College and Lamar Community College will play Casper (Wyo.) College.
The pigtail match winners will play in a double-elimination bracket on Wednesday afternoon. The losers of the pigtails are eliminated.
Drawing pigtail byes are Western Nebraska Community College, Northeastern Junior College, Laramie County (Wyo.) Community College and Northwest (Wyo.) College.
The bracket will continue into Thursday and Friday. It will end on Saturday.
