Six local high school volleyball teams were involved in regional tournament action which took place this past weekend at several venues in the state of Colorado.

Class 3A Region 3 Tournament

GREELEY — La Junta High School competed in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament, which took place Friday at University High School.

The Lady Tigers first played KIPP Denver Collegiate and they defeated the White Tigers in three straight sets. The scores were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-14.

La Junta's season came to an end as it lost to University in three sets. The scores were 25-7, 25-12, 25-11.

La Junta's final record was 16 wins and nine losses. The Lady Tigers were also 7-5 in the always-tough Tri-Peaks League and they were sixth in the overall standings.

Class 2A Region 1 Tournament

YUMA — Crowley County High School participated in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament, which occurred Friday at Yuma High School.

The Lady Chargers' season ended after a pair of losses. They first lost to top seed Yuma by scores of 25-6, 25-19 and 25-20. They then were defeated by Peyton in four sets. Crowley County won the first set 25-23, but the Lady Panthers swept the final three by scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 27-25.

Crowley County had a final season record of eight wins and 17 losses. It had a Santa Fe League record of 4-9.

Class 2A Region 5 Tournament

SWINK — Swink High School hosted the Class 2A Region 5 Tournament on Saturday at the Lions Den. The Lady Lions won both of their matches to advance to the Class 2A State Tournament.

Swink's first match was against Wray and it swept the Lady Eagles. The scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-15.

The Lady Lions defeated Sanford in the championship match. The Lady Indians won the first match 25-17, but Swink swept through the final three sets by scores of 25-5, 25-12 and 25-11.

Swink takes a record of 22 wins and only three losses into the state tournament. It also had a Santa Fe League record of 11-2.

Class 2A Region 6 Tournament

DEL NORTE — Rocky Ford High School ventured into the San Luis Valley on Saturday for the Class 2A Region 6 Tournament, which took place at Del Norte High School.

The Lady Meloneers lost both matches. First they lost to Del Norte 25-21, 25-7 and 25-13. Then they were defeated by Dolores 25-13, 25-11 and 25-14.

Rocky Ford had a final overall record of nine wins and 16 losses and they were 4-9 in the Santa Fe League.

Class 2A Region 11 Tournament

AULT — Fowler High School took part in the Class 2A Region 11 Tournament, which took place Friday at Highland High School.

The Lady Grizzlies lost both of their matches. Their first match was against Highland and the match was decided in five sets. The Lady Huskies won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-13, but Fowler rallied to win the next two by scores of 25-22 and 25-19. Highland won the final set 15-11.

Fowler then lost to Byers in three sets. The scores were 25-18, 26-24 and 26-24.

Fowler's final season overall record was 10 wins and 15 losses. The Lady Grizzlies were 6-7 in the Santa Fe League.

Class 1A Region F Tournament

LAMAR — McClave High School won the Class 1A Region F Tournament, which occurred Friday at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center.

First the Lady Cardinals played South Baca and the match was decided in five sets. The Lady Patriots took the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. But McClave swept through the final three sets, winning 25-20, 25-17 and 15-12.

The Lady Cardinals defeated Springfield in the championship match and it went into four sets. McClave won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-19, but the Lady Longhorns won the third set 25-20. The Lady Cardinals wrapped up the match with a 25-21 win the the fourth set.

McClave has an overall record of 18-6 and it went 4-1 in the High Plains League.
