The Fowler School Board Monday voted to keep the kindergarten entrance cut off date at June 1. Superintendent Steve Grasmick told the board that if they moved the entrance date to Aug. 1, they could potentially save $16,000 – $20,000 that year and possibly save $20,000 in their first grade year. The Aug. 1 date would allow 4-5 more students to be enrolled. After discussion involving the maturity level, that they would be progressing through middle school and high school at a younger age, it was decided not to change the entrance age date.
Marty Hart from the recreation board put a request in for a 14’ x 30’ metal building in which to house equipment that is currently being stored in peoples’ garages. They would also like to purchase an ATV for work purposes. Hart said the board is working with Town Hall for a grant for bleachers and awnings. The school would not be paying for anything having to do with the bleachers. The board requested to see a site plan before voting on it. Mike Thomas said the building would be covered by the school’s insurance policy, but not the contents, so renters insurance should be looked into for the contents. Asked if they could have a site plan by the next meeting, and Hart said she would check with Randy Corsentino, who is doing a  site plan.
The board voted to accept the resignation of Susan Giadone.
The food services program was discussed and Kathy Sharp said that instead of hiring someone to replace Giadone, they will distribute her duties among the current staff and see how that works out.
The high school and elementary school DestinationImagination Teams are going to the state tournament. Ty Hershey will be participating in the State Geography Bee and Isaac Sanchez is going to the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
The board voted to support the Lobato v. State of Colorado lawsuit and the request to reallocate Lottery/Gambling Funds.
Three grants requests have been turned in, one of them is the BEST Grant through the Colorado Department of Education for capital construction for school districts. The State Board of Education will make the decision on who is awarded the grant. The grants will cover updating fire alarms in C building and Ag Shop, the ventilation system and new booths in the Ag Shop, and the hood in the kitchen is outdated.
