The Otero County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call to an address in the 33000 block of County Road 4.5 in the Fowler area on July 5, 2010 at about 2:30 p.m. Corporal Carol Coates, who was dispatched to the scene met with the victim, a Gina Higgs, 45, who alleged that she had been struck in the face by her seventeen-year-old son. Ms. Higgs stated that she arrived home from a trip and alleged that the juvenile had been drinking alcohol. Words were exchanged between Ms. Higgs and the juvenile male, who then struck Ms. Higgs in the face. Also responding to the scene was the Fowler Police Department. The juvenile was transported to the Otero County Sheriff's Office.
