Fowler Police Chief Henry Borrego updated council members at the Monday evening meeting regarding ongoing obscene phone calls which have been received by several area residents.

In early June women in the Fowler area began receiving threatening phone calls from a private number. In nearly all reported cases, the male caller first asks to speak to the woman's husband then after determining she is alone claims to be outside the house and threatens to rape the woman. Most victims are single, senior-citizen age and report the calls are continuing.

Borrego told council he has served Century Tel with a warrant for the records of nine of the victims. Apparently there is a 4 to 6 week wait on those records and in the meantime, Borrego encourages victims to continue reporting any incidents. “If you are ever uneasy or frightened, no matter what time of day or night, please call us and we will come investigate,” he stated. Borrego also asked that victims continue to use the *57 feature after any threatening phone call which places a trace on the number.

Even though all the victims have a 263 prefix, some are located in Crowley or Pueblo County and for that reason, Borrego will be working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations to investigate the calls.

Present at Monday's council meeting were two of the victims who proposed establishing a reward for any tips leading to the capture and conviction of the person responsible for the calls. Council members readily supported the proposal and unanimously voted to contribute $500 from the town's health and safety fund.
