A Fowler man was killed Saturday night when his vehicle overturned into an irrigation canal south of Fowler.
Darren Denney, age 44, and passenger, Ruth Denney, were driving along the High Line Canal off County Road 2 south of Fowler Saturday evening when their older model Ford Bronco drifted over the bank of the canal. The vehicle overturned landing upside down in the water. Mrs. Denney was able to escape and go for help. A private party responded to the scene and pulled Mr. Denney out of the vehicle. Fowler emergency personnel arrived and administered CPR but were unable to revive him. Mr. Denney was later pronounced dead at the scene by Otero County Coroner Robert M. Fowler. Mrs. Denney was treated on scene for minor injuries.
Colorado State Patrol is investigating.
