At Monday evening's regularly scheduled Fowler Town Council meeting, Town Administrator Wayne Snider updated trustees on several area projects set to begin right away.

Colorado Department of Transportation has begun moving crews and construction equipment into Fowler. Acceleration and deceleration lanes will be constructed west of town at Fowler Livestock Auction and east of town at County Road 3.5 near the post office. Also, the Town of Fowler has been waiting on documentation from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad before beginning work on the backfeed line which will run under the railroad on the north edge of town. That documentation was received earlier this week.

Snider warned, “Three sides of town will be torn up at one time.” But, he reminded everyone it is exciting and beneficial to finally have the projects underway.

Fowler Town Trustee, Randy McKown, inquired about the situation of drainage near Fowler Museum. According to Snider other businesses on that block have been asked to divert rainfall from their roofs to the alley which will direct drainage away from the museum. To date, only one business has complied. “What has to happen,” stated Snider, “is water from those roofs has to go to the alley.” Snider believes that diversion will be the least expensive and most effective solution.

In response to a request for clarification from McKown, Snider reported representatives from BiO2 Solutions were present at a recent meeting of the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District requesting $15,000 to implement a pilot program at the Fowler sewer lagoons. The program uses a process of single-cell algae to put oxygen into the water, rather than mechanical processes typically used in lagoons. The program is experimental and will be paid for by other entities, not the Town of Fowler.

Town Clerk, Shawn Pagnotta, reported the deadline to submit a letter of intent for the vacant council seat has been extended to the end of August. To date, only one letter has been received regarding the position left open following the death of trustee, Larry Vibber.

In other business:

  • Council decided it could not honor a request for sponsorship for Hannah Berumen as she competes in a Miss Teen pageant later this month. Historically, council has not contributed to similar events.

  • Liquor license renewals for Tank n Tummy and Red Top Wine and Liquor were unanimously approved.

  • Pagnotta reminded residents registration renewals for golf carts are due each year on June 1. Please check your vehicle.

Next council meeting is Monday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
