Fowler, Colo. -

The Crowley County Commissioners located in Ordway, Colorado, have agreed to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Tri-County Housing and Community Development Corporation, a housing non-profit agency headquartered in Fowler.

This agreement is imperative in the continuation of administering the Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program which assists low to moderate income and elderly families with affordable loans to upgrade their homes and provide new electrical, energy, roof and plumbing repairs. Eligible families must live in the Tri-County area of Crowley, Bent and Otero.

The Colorado State Division of Housing will grant the area $447,000 to continue operation of the housing repair program.  Tri-County Housing needed a local governmental entity to act as a pass-through for the grant. Because of Crowley County agreeing to partnership with Tri-County Housing the housing program will continue to operate and provide funds to families in the area.

Tri-County Housing has operated the Program since 2001 and in addition to making low interest loans for housing repairs, will continue to provide other services including debt counseling and financial management assistance.

According to TCH the Housing Program has spent the following dollars for housing in the three counties since its inception:

•    55 families in Bent County and contributed $961,000 in loans ;
•    97 families in Crowley County and contributed over $1,471,762 in loans , and;
•    449 families in Otero County for a total loans amounting to over $7,173,233.

Both Tony Berumen and Assistant Director Monie Stites met with the Crowley County Commissioners to discuss the importance of the program to the area and the support services that are also provided to borrowers. "Without this program, funding for Tri-County Housing would not exist or cannot exist for housing repairs,” Stites told the Commissioners.
