Fowler resident, Debby Rogge, addressed Fowler Town Council Monday evening, requesting trustees approve an American Cancer Society proclamation.

The proclamation would proclaim Fowler as an official American Cancer Society Relay for Life City as well as designate the month of July as Relay for Life Month in Fowler. The request was unanimously approved.

Also in attendance was Pat Lowe, librarian at Fowler Public Library. Lowe reported the library catalog is now fully computerized and 240 members have cards. The library has a total count of 10,987 books. Since the library’s re-opening in May 2,015 books have been checked out. Lowe also showed trustees new book bags which are given to Friends of the Library members. The design on the bags was donated by the graphics department at Fowler High School.

The Summer Reading Program has begun and Lowe reported 78 readers are currently enrolled. Lowe has revamped the reading requirements and award schedule. Many prizes have been donated by local merchants and Lowe welcomes any additional donations. The town agreed to donate 20 swimming pool passes.

Twenty computers have been received by Fowler Public Library from the Pueblo City/County Library District. Mike Trujillo is helping set those up as well as a WiFi network which will be available in two weeks.

Lowe also took the opportunity to publically oppose eventually moving the library to Park School. According to Lowe, she has been informed by the town that no more books can be procured by the library due to the condition of the floor in Park School. “We might as well shut down if we can’t take in more books,” she said.

In other business on Monday’s agenda:
Review of the Honeywell Contract was tabled until there is time to further review it.
A Declaration of Covenants and Conditions from Great Outdoors Colorado concerning the project at Gerard Park was approved.
An award letter from the State of Colorado was noted. Fowler has been granted $164,221 for the backfeed line.
An Intergovernmental Agreement between Fowler and Crowley County was approved contingent on identification of exact coverage area. This agreement is part of Fowler’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan and fosters a working relationship between Fowler and Crowley County on joint projects.

Fowler Town Council will next meet July 13 at 6 p.m.
