Heaven was rejoicing on March 12, 2009, when our wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and friend, Shelley Rae (Watson) Brauer, unexpectedly went to be with Jesus. A very sudden illness with Influenza A and pneumonia developed into sepsis, which took the life of our earthly angel all too soon. Visitation for Shelley will be at Olinger Mortuary, Castle Rock, Colo. on Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with pre-service viewing from 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. at The Rock Church, 4881 Cherokee Drive, Castle Rock. Interment will be at the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth, CO. There will be a luncheon following at Harvest Bible Church, Elizabeth.
Born on May 27, 1968 in Pueblo, CO to Dwight & Carolyn Watson, Shelley was the oldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Watson, mother-in-law, Shirley (Anderson) Brauer and father-in-law, Virgil Brauer. She is survived by her husband, Scott Brauer; children: Jaston (10), Braidon (8), Zane (4), & Keira (20 months); parents, Dwight & Carolyn Watson, of Boone, CO; sisters: Brenda (Eric) Schmucker, Kimberly Fosdick, Terri (Tom) Lehmpuhl, all of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Jason (Chris) Watson, of San Antonio, TX; 12 nieces & nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shelley graduated from Fowler High School in 1986. She attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO receiving a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development. After college, Shelley met Scott Brauer and they were married in September 1995. As their family grew during their 13 years of marriage, they moved from Fort Collins to Woodland Park, where they lived for approximately five years before settling at Cherry Colorado Ranch, where Scott was raised.
Shelley's passion for people was evident in her undying love for the families she worked with at Respite Care in Fort Collins. She was deeply touched by the incredible children and people she encountered there. Her selfless involvement in MOPS, PTO, Munchkin Market, and caring for her father-in-law during his illness were all testimonies to this passion. She had a unique gift of turning every ordinary moment or mundane task with her family into a memory-making opportunity. Her circle of influence is vast as she was extremely involved in every area of her children's lives, as well as always making sure their feet were planted in a church family.
Above all accomplishments, recognitions and awards that were and could have been bestowed upon Shelley, her true joy and gratification always came from being the hands and feet of Christ to everyone who crossed her path. In doing so, she made herself endlessly available to others. Ironically, her feet were small, but her shoes will be impossible to fill. However, because she lived her life with very few regrets, she left a remarkable legacy in each of our hearts, and with God's help, we hope to continue the great work He was doing through His vessel, Shelley Rae Brauer.
As a practical way to help her family during this difficult time, donations may be made by contacting or visiting any Wells Fargo Bank and donating to The Shelley Brauer Memorial Fund.
