Leona Martin, 71, of Boone, Colo. died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, Colo. She was born on September 11, 1936, in Colfax, Wash., the daughter of the late Douglas G. and Mary Elizabeth Varner Sharp. She and Duane Martin were married on September 4, 1953, in Raton, N.M. From 1965 until 1994 they lived in Castle Rock, Colo. and in the last few years returned to the White Rock community and this area. She is survived by her husband, Duane of the home, one son, Frank (Amanda) Martin of Walsenburg, Colo., and daughters, Karen (Gary) Crego and Debbie Martin, Fowler, Shari (John) Dietz, Manzanola, Joleen Martin, Boone, Colo., Vicki (Jason) Jackson, Crowley, Colo., and Elizabeth (John Pitts) Martin of Round Mtn, Nev.; brothers Roy (Joan) Sharp and Russell Sharp of St. John, Wash., Ralph (Maureen) Sharp of Spokane, Wash., one sister, Vera (Jerry) Parish of St. John, Wash., and six grandchildren. One brother, Ray, preceded her in death. Visitation was Monday Griffy Chapel in Fowler. The funeral service was held Tuesday at Griffy Funeral Chapel in Fowler. Burial followed at the Higbee Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dave Mendenhall, Bob Hannah, Jason Jackson, Ralph Sharp, Roy Sharp and Rich Stevens. Honorary bearers were William Sinclair, Russell Sharp, Dave Curtis, Rick Taylor, Bob Thomas, J. S. Stewart and Burton Wright. Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler was in charge of arrangements.
