Think Ahead

I believe we’ve all heard the old adage, “if we fail to plan, then plan to fail.” How true this is for vacations, businesses and even meals. It is absolutely essential to plan ahead for construction projects and building houses – in fact, without a plan (blueprints) we wouldn’t be allowed to proceed. Think of the intricate plans needed for the Fourth Street bridge project in Pueblo.
We plan out weddings (one area of careful and detailed planning!), home buying, crops, career education / training, retirement and this time of year, how to pay our taxes. Oh, yes, it is good to think ahead. Thinking ahead keeps us from making costly mistakes, and accomplishes the desired result. Daytimers, PDA’s, notebook planners and calendars are big business.
There is one area, however, where many folk have not done much planning or thinking ahead. That subject is where eternity will be spent. We get busy with our earthly lives, focused on work, family and pleasure, not thinking ahead for what lies beyond this physical existence. Our allotted seven or eight decades are a drop in a bucket compared to the ocean of eternity. Time goes by and plans about heaven get neglected. But eternity is forever. Where will you be? Since next week is Easter week, may I suggest something to you?
Jesus suffered and died upon the cross 2000 years ago so you and I could have a great future if we so desire. He rose from the grave to conquer death and to give a pattern for those who would follow Him. God did this so we could plan ahead, and spend eternity with Him. Remember, “if we fail to plan, then plan to fail.” If we do not think ahead in this area, we will fail and fail miserably. To not follow God will result in eternal punishment. I strongly suggest we allow the wonderful message of Good Friday and Easter to transform our lives. These events took place so we can have hope. Do you have hope and assurance of heaven? Or are you stuck in the temporary?
Yes, plans can be good. I encourage you to have a plan for eternity - it is found in the Bible. Don’t procrastinate and be so caught up in temporary things that you are just shooting from the hip at life’s end. Think ahead, so you won’t fail in what matters most.
