I read with regret the letter written by Mr. Jack Hobby.

Why anyone would fault Hobby for doing his best to protect this community is beyond me.
If you have to blame someone, blame Sheriff Johnson. Hobby made the call in good faith. Since we are all under extreme fire danger, Johnson should have asked for specifics regarding that burn. He should have informed Hobby about the appropriate state laws. Obviously that didn’t happen.

All communities are burdened with appointed and elected officials that would better serve the community by gaining employment with a sanitation firm.
Hobby is certainly not among this group. Hobby has been instrumental in saving lives and property many times over and for many years.

Now Hobby has resigned his position with our Volunteer Fire Dept. (“Volunteer” get it? Volunteer).
Lets try something. If you fault the people that risk their ass to save yours, don’t call them. The next time you are in dire need of immediate professional help call a “concerned citizen” like the one mentioned in Hobby’s letter. See how that works for you.
