Letter to the editor:

The Fowler Board of trustees has given all authority regarding town employees to the town administrator. The trustees do not make decisions or recommendations regarding specific employees. All those decisions are made by the town administrator.

The trustees met on December 30, 2009 and went into executive session to discuss several specific legal issues with the town attorney regarding the Fowler Police Department. The trustees did not vote on any item and did not arrive at any form of consensus on any item discussed.

Since the police chief resigned the town administrator has been more hands on with the administrative work required to operate a police department on a day to day basis. It is my duty as town administrator and as the acting administrative head of the Fowler Police Department to address all issues regarding police officers. It is the policy of the town to not discuss specific employees and the reason for the departure of any employee.

I am concerned about providing Fowler residents with the best possible police protection.
I am working to find an experienced officer to serve as Fowler's new police chief. I want to have a new chief on duty as rapidly as possible but it is equally important to find the best possible match between the community and the new police chief.

Sincerely,
Wayne Snider

Town Administrator
