During the period following the recent terrorist massacre at Ft. Hood, Texas, Our Commander-in-Chief and President, Barak Obama, ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff-but not in the Fowler Cemetery! Not until after several inquiries was ANY proper action taken and the flag respectfully lowered. Did the Fowler City government knowingly ignore our President's orders?
How many people of our community even took notice of this shameful oversight or even took the time to notice this lack of just reverence to the dedicated men and women of our Armed Forces who lost their lives or were injured by a terrorist? Freedom that we enjoy in this country is so often marginalized or they are JUST someone else's family members? Can't we at least thank our fallen whether in the cemeteries throughout the world or here in our own Fowler Cemetery by following OUR President's proclamation to lower the flag to half-staff? Is it too much trouble or too much to ask? How many drivers along U.S. 50, a major national traffic corridor, viewed or overlooked this shameful inaction or even to the few seconds of their time to even take notice? Enough that I first heard about this inaction outside the community before viewing it for myself. What a reputation!
