Last week I had to replace some suspension and steering parts on my "fun" car, a Pontiac Firebird. The lower A-arm and steering knuckle on the right side were bent by the previous owner, and before it could be aligned properly, had to be replaced.

The A-arm is a key component in the suspension, which gives a vehicle a smooth ride over rough roads. The steering knuckle/spindle give the tire something on which to be attached and keeps the tires working together in alignment. Did you know people are like vehicles and need steering and suspension components?

Without any steering apparatus, people will wander and follow their sin nature, doing whatever feels right in their own eyes, usually ending in chaos and pain. God wants to guide us to Him, and will use the Bible, the Holy Spirit and fellow Christians to “steer” us in the paths of life. Otherwise we end up meandering all over the place, breaking things and ending up nowhere. This describes a life lived for self, resulting in broken relationships and an eternity in Hell. Also, without suspension, life can bounce us and be pretty rough. Pot holes and washboards don’t have to stop our spiritual progress, though. The forgiveness God offers smooths out our jagged past and softens relationships. The hope of heaven makes the hard road barely noticeable. Love covers a multitude of bumps (sins). God gives us peace that alleviates uneven and coarse situations.

How is your life’s alignment? Are you tracking straight on God’s road of eternal life? How is your suspension? Do you have peace and joy?

Allow God, through His Son Jesus Christ, to get you aligned right and on the right road. Go to church services – they are like alignment and tune up shops. Surrender to the Lord and make sure your vehicle (your life) is working properly.
